Ponderosa Cake

This moist, delicious cake freezes well and is one of my favorite cakes. Thank you, Rose!

1 cup unsalted butter
1 ½ cups sugar
½ tsp salt
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 ripe bananas
3 ¼ cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup brown sugar
1 ½ cups chocolate chips


  1.  Preheat oven to 350 F (325ºF if using a glass dish).
  2.  Cream together butter and sugar.
  3.  Add eggs and beat.
  4.  Add bananas and vanilla.
  5.  Add flour, baking powder and baking soda to banana   mixture, alternately with sour cream.
  6.  Pour half the batter into a greased 9x13 pan or dish.
  7.  Combine cinnamon and brown sugar. Spread half of it on the first layer of batter.
  8.  Top with half the chocolate chips.
  9.  Repeat layers ending with cinnamon mixture and chocolate chips on top.
  10.  Bake for 40-45 minutes or until done in the middle.
  11.  Cool and cut into squares.
