Hi, my name is Carolyn Colbourne and I love to cook!
My hometown is Lush’s Bight, Newfoundland, Canada. It is a small outport fishing village which is located on a small island called Long Island, on the northeast coast.

I left Lush’s Bight at age 15 to attend school in Robert’s Arm, NL where I completed High School and where I taught elementary grades for 26 years.
I retired from teaching in 2001 at the age of 50 with 29 years of experience in Newfoundland. I decided that I was too young to retire and came north to teach. I taught Inuit children in Umiujaq, Northern Quebec for 2 years and I am presently teaching grade 3 in God’s Lake Narrows, Northern Manitoba where I have spent the last 3 years teaching Cree children.

I have three children of my own - Tina, Marty and Wendy; and I also have five grandchildren - Deanna, Martina, Jenny, Monte and Lynkon.
In my leisure time, I love to cook and bake. Occasionally, I invite the other teachers who are here from other provinces in Canada and some of my Cree friends to a meal. They especially love my Jigs Dinners, peas soup and dumplings (Newfoundland recipes)!
I would like to share some of my all-time favorite recipes with you, some of which have been collected from my mother, my special aunt, other family members and friends. Thanks everybody!
Enjoy!
